ethernet switch versus ethernet hub

I was told that the difference between the two is that a ethernet switch will allow data in and out at the same time. While a hub will not allow data in if it already sending out. Is this true? Is the performance difference noticable if there are only 2 or 3 computers sharing the internet?

You won't notice a difference for just that use.
