Nice looking forums. Has anyone heard anything about new mobile graphics cards? thanks

I havn't really heard anything...the best out right now is the 9600 pro (or XT) moble. Which is still pretty good. Heck, given the pixel response time one an LCD anyway, it doesn't matter as much as it would on a desktop using a CRT anyway.

The Mobility 9600 is the card we're offering on our Top-of-the-line model right now. The 9700 is on the way (or maybe just released) but no one's developed a kit for them yet.

Here's what I know about it:

ATI tells us that their customers are going to implement the Mobility Radeon 9700 with core clocks in the range of 390MHz to 450MHz, while the memory clocks will run in the range of 200MHz to 260MHz.

Don't let the name confuse you though. Where as the PC Radeon 9700 is actually a step down, the mobility is definately the next generation of chip. Naming it the 9800 would definately be reaching, so the 9700 Mobility seemed like the obvious name.

The benchmarks I've seen show a pretty consistant 25%-30% performance increase over the Mobility 9600. All in all, I'd say it looks to be a pretty decent upgrade. I wonder though, how hard it is on battery-life, or laptop temperature.

We'll keep you posted, and let you know just as soon as we can get our hands on them!

Why exactly do they call it mobile? Hmm..... a truly "mobile", wireless video card, could be interestin... haha...

Oh, I should mention, we offer a laptop with the 9700 now. :)

As soon as I get my hands on one, I'll give you all a good write up.
