View Full Version : custom build problem
Howdy,
I keep trying to configure a custom pc on your site to no avail. Whenver I click "Click here for more choices" it wipes out what I have already selected and does not provide more choices. This is extraordinarily frustrating.
I *want* to purchase a computer from Puget, but other online custom builders have more available choices on harddrives and such. I know Puget kindly offers to substitute parts for non-listed components, but really I just want the website to work like it is intended.
Any suggestions?
Charlie.

Hmmm....pages I checked are working fine for me here. Which configuration page are you on? What browser are you using?
If something is not working, Puget would definitely like to know. Thanks for your help!

Hmm, I'm not having any trouble with the site, either. In the past, I had noticed that if you configured some browsers to block all pop-ups without making an exception for Puget's site, then you couldn't get through some of the layers on the site. So, maybe check your pop-up settings.
As for hard drives, what brand were you looking for? I think Puget carries all the major ones, i.e. Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor along with Samsung (very quiet drives) and Hitachi. I'm pretty sure they carry an assortment of SATA I and II drives, the speedy Raptors, an assortment of high capacity drives, etc. They also offer external hard drives. And if the configurator doesn't show what you want, they'll get it for you. :-)
Good luck!

Strange.
I've tried IE and Firefox with no pop up blocking. Each time I hit "Click for more options" the page resets, erasing everything I've selected, and not presenting more choices. For example, I have yet to see any Western Digital HD options as you mention, on any of the customizations.
Are there more choices than what is typically shown? I am unable to access them, and having the page reset each time is annoying.
Grumble.
Charlie.

Charlie -
Sorry to hear about your problem! Let's try something. On our homepage, you'll see a system labeled "High Performance Computer." Hit Customize. Then, in the paragraph at the top labeled "Why are the selections on this page limited?", right click on the link that says "...simply click here" and hit "Copy Shortcut". When you paste that into notepad, what shows up? For me, it says:
http://www.pugetsystems.com/configure.php?parts=4608,8710,3432,2266,3109,4620, 1594,9065,9360,2970,1809,124,116,1878,374,373
If you go to that link, you should see the "High Performance Computer" with all options. If you make any changes to the system before hitting the "...simply click here" link, the part IDs should update accordingly.
Looking forward to seeing what you find! Even if it is an issue no one else here seems to be having, I'd still like to fix it! Who knows how many others might have the problem but just aren't bringing it up...

Hopefully someone from Puget will reassure you on this, i.e. that you can get any hard drive(s) you wish. If it's not listed on the configuration pages, you can still specify that you want a particular component when you submit a configuration to Puget for review by one of their representatives.
Anyway, I see they've updated their configure pages since I last looked. The 74GB "Raptor" that's listed is made by Western Digital. It appears to be the only hard drive for which a brand isn't specified. Anyway, it looks like most of the hard drives in the configurator are now made by Seagate, one by Samsung, one by Hitachi, and the Raptor by Western Digital.
Anyway, Charlie, if I understand you correctly, one thing you're wondering is if Puget can get you any part you want, why don't they just list everything in the configurator? Well, they have reasons for that, but I'll let Jon or someone else answer that for you.

Yeah, I don't see any Western Digital HD options either.

The page does reload and take you to the top every time (which can be annoying), but I'm not seeing it "reset" choices?

The 74GB "Raptor" is made by Western Digital. See my post above. Maybe the brand could be added to the configurator at some point.
