I'm kinda worried about getting a 19 inch in a college dorm with the tight space, but then again I don't want to pay $400 and up for a decent lcd. I'm also thinking of getting a good pair of head phones too, not sure

It's a good monitor, but you're right about the 19-inch monitor in a dorm. Sounds a bit large. Mine is a 17-inch, and I'm still a bit worried about space, and this is also a flat-screen CRT, but it's not too deep and should fit wonderfully on the tiny desks the university gives us. I agree that an LCD is far too expensive for a college budget, but anyway, here's my advice: Find out how big your desk is going to be in your dorm. The speakers are good, I think, and shouldn't take up too much space if you can find somewhere good to place the subwoofer. Anyway, then take a look at the specs for the monitor and see if it looks large enough. Your desk should be big enough to fit a decent-sized CRT and leave enough space for writing.

That's an awesome monitor and keyboard/mouse combo :thumbs

First off, hello everyone.

Ricky about your concerns on that monitor. It all depends on what you intend to use your desk for, and how it's configured. If the main drawer is a pullout (some schools have this) then you can probably put your keyboard into that and save some table top space. If it isn't you're going to want to measure the depth of the monitor and the depth of the desk to see if your keyboard will fit. Now if you're tricky you can create a monitor stand which will sit over your keyboard a little and give you some extra room if needed.

I myself filled up my entire desk at school with a mid-tower (pipes had a bad tendancy to burst and flood rooms, hence the comp was raised off the ground, a 16" crt, and keyboard. Along one side I took up an additional four inches with my alarm clock (there are ways of mounting the clock onto your bedframe to clear up this space), and a cordless phone on the other end. This left me with exactly enough room to put an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper near the phone, and my wallet near my clock when I slept. If I needed more room I'd put the keyboard up ontop of the back of the monitor and clear up some space to put a book.

The best thing I could tell you is to figure out the footprint size of your monitor and keyboard. Call up your housing dept. at the school and ask for dimensions on the desk. Then figure out what will work best for you. Towers can be put on cinderblocks or some other raised surface off the ground, and the other things can always find a home perched somewhere else. (Printer under the bed on a milk crate is a favorite at my school).

Or you could just get a shuttle, like me! Those space save like no other

Shuttles? I thought those things were called toasters! At least, that's what I'd use 'em for ;-) . Plus, they're easier to run off with (though not as easy as laptops), and I checked the security logs of campus security for the past 3 years, and there were quite a few laptop thefts. Not a single desktop theft, though.
