I'm looking for a new computer for about $1000-$1100. It should be able to run Half-Life2, and I'll be using it for mostly gaming. I would like to cram in about as much performance as I can get for that price, without like having it overheat every 5 minutes. This would be a great help.
Thanks,
John

Well, here's what I would suggest:

A gigabyte of ram, a GeForce 6600 GT, and assorted other fun stuff. It won't be really quiet, but it'll be quiet enough that you won't notice it during a frag session.

get an P4 3.2 GHZ 1GB memory, sata 60 HD, select an 128mb video card, no ATI plz.(about $189) and the quantum case and Magnum600 or vort ec 600 (XG barnd @ xgbox.com ). with their ice age ultra silent cpu cooler, this can be done in www.newegg.com esily with 17" LCD for about $1000. sounds good ?
i'm sure you'll be having fun with your CPU, will fill with joy for the next coming 2yrs.
^_^ good luck

Or, he could go with his original plan, buy from us, and get a good, working system, guranteed, with a one year warranty.

Hey this is really helpful. I was wondering though(plz forgive me kinda ignorant) but does the dvd drive in that config you posted play normal cd-roms? Also i would like something similair to that but instead i would rather have a 6800 card what would be a reasonable gaming config for the money w/ a dvd drive 6800 1G of ram. I dont wanna spend to much. Mybe some where 1000-1400. Anything that will play online games better than this crap HP which buy the way just crashed cause of overheating problems. Plz help. Kinda befuddled.

Yep! Every drive we have will play CD-ROMs!
As for the upgrade...
This system:
http://www.pugetsystems.com/configgaming.php?parts=598,1526,1538,2265,543,8344 ,4795,3020,506,123,1878,398
is what I would suggest for an all-around upgrade. It's got a faster processor, a DVD/CD burner combo drive (reads DVDs, burns CDs), a bigger power supply, and a regular 6800.
For a straight game-performance upgrade, however...

This system runs the 6800 GT, the next step up from the regular 6800. Personally, I would reccomend the previous system, because it'll do a lot more than just game without too much of a hit to gaming performance. But, if all you plan on doing is game, this system is the way to go.
