Well, given that this article is already a bit dated, I still would have used a 9800 pro instead of a 5900 ultra. The GeForce FX series has yet to show potential.
Oh, and I don't know if the Athlon FX was out at this point, but if it was, I would have gone with that.

It brings up a great point -- always check the date before you belive a hardware article :) I remember when I wrote that article -- the "Ultra" version of the GeForceFX just came out and created a lot of excitement...but it was soon shown that the 9800 still had an edge in many areas.

Yeah, and people should always check out more than once source before they believe what they see.
Actually, right after the 5800 ultra came out, the ONLY place that actually liked it was Tom's Hardware guide, but they are COMPLETELY partial toward nVidia and Intel. Heck, their article about the 9700 pro when it first came out was called "Pretender to the Throne".

I don't really think there is 1 way to make the "ultimate gaming computer".... Due to compatibility issues, preferences, etc.... But I guess there could be a basic outline, that is definetely good.
