Anyone know of good war games for PC?

I'm looking for presents for a buddy of mine. He's a pretty hardcore RTS gamer, so he has most stuff that's popular. I'm not really familiar with the genre and I don't know all of what he has. I need either something obscure or something new or coming soon. Anyone know any good RTS war games? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Dawn of War is pretty new, but I actually wasn't that fond of it.

To date, my favorite RTS game is still Command and Conquer: Generals (with the Zero Hour expansion!)

I know that he has Dawn of War. And, I know that C&C:Generals is his favorite too! So you're probably a good person to ask. :)

I did a search for things like C&C coming out soon and found a game called "Act of War" here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/actofwardirectaction/media.html
Have you heard anything about it? I think there's a demo out.

Age of Empires II is a classic. It's still really fun, though. Your friend probably already has it.

What about Rise of Nations? That game is pretty cool.
